    Kinisiaturgy

    Proposed definition

Kinisiaturgy is the art and process of generating dramaturgy through movement, in which bodies,
camera trajectories, music, space, and interacting processes produce a developing composition.
The word combines two Greek-derived concepts:
    Kínēsis (κίνησις):movement, motion, change.
Dramaturgy:the organisation of actions and relationships into a meaningful progression.
The suffix -aturgyechoes dramaturgy, suggesting an art or practice of making and organising.
Kinisiaturgy is our proposed neologism, rather than an established academic term.

    How it might work

    1. Kínēsis

    Bodies, gestures, trajectories, spatial change

    2. Interaction

    Dancers, moving camera, music, environment

    3. Kinisiaturgy

    Selection, relationships, rhythms, emergent patterns

    4. Composition

A film or performance whose dramaturgy emerges through movement

What distinguishes it from traditional dramaturgy? In a conventional dramatic structure, actions may be organised around a story, conflict, or sequence of events. In kinisiaturgy, movement and the relationships between moving elements become the primary generators of structure and meaning. For example, when you run with a camera alongside dancers, the camera is not merely recording choreography. Its speed, distance, direction, instability, and encounters with the dancers become part of the compositional process. Music and editing can then reveal relationships that were not fully predetermined. This also allows for an interest in computational processes and game strategies: movement patterns could be selected, combined, and transformed according to changing rules, producing a dramaturgy that evolves rather than simply follows a script.

    A possible statement of principle

KINISIATURGY — A Dramaturgy of Movement

Kinisiaturgy proposes movement as a generative principle of composition. Through the interaction of bodies, camera trajectories, music, space, and processes of selection, dramaturgical relationships emerge, evolve, and transform. Rather than imposing a predetermined narrative upon movement, kinisiaturgy explores how movement itself can generate structure, perception, rhythm, and meaning.

One important distinction: kinisiaturgy need not mean choreography alone. It could encompass the entire process through which movement generates a work, from the dancer's gesture to the camera's trajectory, from musical composition to editing, and from individual actions to the emergence of a larger system.
That gives a potentially useful term for dance films, online publishing, and a wider investigation of movement as a creative and computational process.
